Short answer: you may be able to get extra Codex usage when your account shows an official ChatGPT Desktop referral offer and an eligible invitee completes the action named in that offer. There is no universal reward or amount. The in-product offer—not an older screenshot or a third-party guide—controls both people’s benefits, eligibility, requirements, limits, and deadlines.
Eligibility-first checklist
- Find an official referral offer shown in-product to your signed-in account.
- Verify the benefit and requirements for both the referrer and invitee.
- Share only the provider-generated OpenAI URL; never construct or alter one.
- Have the invitee accept the offer and complete the exact qualifying action it names.
- Confirm the benefit appears in the eligible usage or credit surface after OpenAI’s checks finish.
Sending a link alone does not earn a reward. If no offer appears, that does not prove there is an outage: availability can vary by promotion, plan, workspace, region, account state, caps, cooldowns, and administrator settings.
AIHackers currently publishes no OpenAI referral URL and has not verified account-specific eligibility or reward delivery. This general guide does not ask readers to use an owner invite, and no AIHackers reward or material connection is attached to it.
What extra usage can a referral provide?
OpenAI’s current terms describe offer-specific ChatGPT Desktop promotions. Depending on the offer, a benefit may be usage credits, a rate-limit reset, temporary additional usage, or another benefit stated in-product. A qualifying action may involve Chat, Work, or Codex, and some offers may require the invitee to join a named ChatGPT Business workspace.
OpenAI publishes no universal amount for this program. Check these fields immediately before sharing or accepting an invite:
| Check before sharing | Authority |
|---|---|
| Benefit for each person | In-product offer |
| Eligible experience, account, plan, workspace, and region | In-product offer and signed-in account |
| Qualifying action | In-product offer |
| Cap, cooldown, and redemption window | In-product offer |
| Reward expiry | In-product offer or applicable terms |
| Successful delivery | Eligible usage or credit surface after checks |
Referral credits are not API credits unless the offer explicitly says otherwise. Rate-limit resets and temporary usage benefits are not cash, purchased ChatGPT credits, subscription capacity, or transferable balances.
How to use an eligible offer
Eligible users may see a referral offer inside ChatGPT Desktop. OpenAI does not document one guaranteed navigation location for every account or promotion, so use the offer your signed-in account actually displays. Copy only the URL generated by OpenAI.
Before sharing, compare the offer text for both participants: a referrer benefit does not prove the invitee receives the same thing. The recipient may need to be new to ChatGPT Desktop, have no recent qualifying Desktop activity, use an eligible account or email domain, join a specified workspace, and complete a named action.
To redeem an eligible invitation:
- Open the provider-generated HTTPS invitation.
- Review the landing page and sign in with the intended eligible account.
- Confirm the benefit, qualifying action, eligible experience, and deadlines again.
- Accept the invitation and complete only the action OpenAI lists.
- Check the relevant usage or credit surface after eligibility checks finish.
Do not self-refer, use aliases, or create duplicate accounts to test a promotion. OpenAI excludes self-invites, duplicate redemptions, address aliases used to evade eligibility, device-linked self-referrals, and suspected abuse. A clean signed-out landing-page check can verify the destination without consuming an invite, but it cannot prove eligibility or reward delivery.
Promotional subscription and free-trial invites are separate
OpenAI also runs campaign-specific ChatGPT promotional subscription and free-trial invite programs. These are real offers, but they do not establish a Desktop referral reward or extra Codex usage.
For trial invitations, recipients are generally new ChatGPT users or users on the free plan, though each campaign controls eligibility. Some offers require a valid payment method. A trial may automatically renew as a paid subscription unless the recipient cancels before it ends, and promotional codes or links cannot be stacked. Always review the duration, plan, payment, renewal, and cancellation terms shown during redemption.
A subscription trial is not API credit. It also does not establish purchased-credit balances, a guaranteed Codex allowance, or a referral benefit for the person who shared it.
Referral and editorial independence
AIHackers publishes no OpenAI referral URL on this page. If that changes in a later release, the exact material connection and benefit for both people must be disclosed beside the link and rechecked against the in-product offer.
The August Smart Spend recommendation predates and is independent of any referral offer. Referral availability and performance do not affect coverage, placement, rankings, benchmark interpretation, model recommendations, or Cost per Accepted Result (CAR). The LLM cost-saving playbook explains how verified promotions fit after deterministic work, access-path selection, acceptance tests, routing, caching, and batching; an offer never changes CAR evidence.
Use the AI subscription-capacity guide to distinguish included limits and reset windows from purchased credits and temporary promotions. For dated context, the Codex banked-reset chronology records the narrower June 2026 launch without treating it as the template for every current offer.
Expiry and recheck triggers
Recheck the in-product offer and landing page whenever the URL destination, benefit, qualifying action, eligibility, plan, workspace, region, cap, cooldown, deadline, or expiry changes. OpenAI says it may modify or wind down referral promotions with notice and may revoke rewards for misuse.
AIHackers has not redeemed an offer or verified an account-specific benefit. The owner link, signed-out landing flow, account eligibility, qualifying action, and reward delivery remain not-run, none, or unverified here.
